The neon sign reads “…because I long to belong’ which is a collaborative piece between Micah Purnell and Lesley Sutton. We all do things because we long to belong. The sign could be placed in numerous places and still resonate; a football club, a religious institution, a night club or even shops.

Status Cages is an installation of birdcages which house consumer goods, books collections of items. Capitalist ideology aims to impart the notion that we are worthy of love and belonging - but only once we have bought into their product or service. Advertising props up this notion with the assumption that we are inadequate - stealing your love of ourselves, and selling it back at a price.
‘Habeas Corpus’ playfully comments upon British Immigration Removal Centres. The prints make reference to vintage travel posters, each recording the capacity and number of detainees at each location. Colours allude to institutional architecture and mass produced furniture found in public buildings. The prints have been realised as a series of flags, embodying the act of protest occupying a physical presence within the space.
